Service Awards |
The Service Awards are given for meritorious service to a club and UQ Sport. Normally a person would have given at least seven years service to earn this award.
Life membership
Life membership goes further than a Service Award. It is given for exceptional service to UQ Sport over a long period of time. A person who has rendered distinguished or special service over a substantial period of time to UQ Sport and the association.
2010 Service Awards
Andrew Lossber – UQ Cricket Club
- Andrew Lossberg has been a member of the UQ Cricket Club for 19 years.
- Andrew has been President since 2003.
- Andrew was the driving force behind the club's incorporation.
- Andrew has contributed enormously to the expansion of the club.
- Andrew has been an advocate of the positive role of sport at the university for more than a decade.
Bruce Brown - UQ Rugby Club
- Bruce Brown has been the UQ Rugby Club President for the past 14 seasons.
- Bruce was a player from 1963 to 1972, and a coach from 1976 to 1980.
- Bruce’s greatest achievement was to set up the Rugby Club Foundation, to allow past and present members to make donations that are ultimately delivered to the club in the form of an annual grant, which is then used to fund general operations and scholarships.
2009 Service Awards
Nick Lorenz - UQ Athletics Club
- Nick Lorenz has served on the clubs committee for the past 10 years and is the current President of the UQ Athletics Club.
- Nick has been instrumental in leading the Club smoothly through the post-VSU environment and has initiated external funding sources to support athletes within the club.
- Nick was a National representative and has lead the UQ University Games Athletics team which have recorded 11 consecutive wins
2008 Service Awards
David Biggs- UQ Cricket Club
- Member of the UQ Cricket Club since 1980.
- He has played every season bar one, as well as every grade of the club.
- He works tirelessly to promote, develop and coach the upcoming cricketers.
- He undertook the role of Club Secretary from 1997 until the conclusion of the 2007/2008 season.
Karen Otway- UQ Touch Club
- Member of the UQ Touch Club since 1992.
- She has helped to increase the club's financial viability by initiating UniTouch and has been heavily involved in maintaining the successful management of the competition.
- Club President from 1995 to 2001
- She was voted Club Person of the Year in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and has played since 1991, representing the club as a regional, state and national player.
2007 Service Awards
Dr Robert Bell - UQ Soccer Club
- Member of the UQ Soccer Club since 1993.
- Member of the executive committee as treasurer.
- Top goal keeper for the club, as well as juggling a budding television career and an expanding family.
- Now a field player for the club
- In the past year has been creating an Alumni for the club and has been applying for funding grants for equipment for the club.
Stanley Chan – UQ Table Tennis Club
- Stanley first joined the UQ Table Tennis Inc in 2000.
- He has had many roles including session manager, vice president, club administrator, tournament manager, treasurer, equipment and promotions officer, club delegate and coach and club president for the last two years.
- He has had many sporting achievements in table tennis including 2007 Queensland Championship Order of Merit No. 8, Team coach for 2006 Australian Junior Queensland team, Team coach and manager for 2007 Australian Open, UQ Team member for 2003 and 2007 Australian University Games, Level 1 coach, Level 2 state umpire plus much!
Ross Markwell – UQ Tennis Club
- Member of the Tennis Club since 1999.
- Part of the management committee since 1999.
- Vice-president from 2001 to 2004.
- Hon. Treasurer since 2005.
- In 2001 took on the responsibility of match allocation for the university open championships and has done that key role for seven years.
- Despite demanding senior roles with the club, he always makes himself available for gradings.
Justin Otway - UQ Touch Football Club
- Has thus far served the University of QLD Touch Club Inc. for 24 years.
- During this time he has been an executive member for nine years.
- Regional player and coach and Queensland player.
- Treasurer (1996 to 2001) and now secretary (2005 to present).
- In 2001 Justin was inducted as a life member of the University of QLD Touch Club Inc.

Pierina Curties

Represented her student body in the UQ Student Union.

Represented the University of Queensland in sailing and ultimate disc and in intervarsity, winning a silver medal in triathlon.

As a board member in the positions of Women’s Vice President, President and Immediate Past President, she led the organisation through governance changes and development of facilities.

Her time on the board is characterised by rapid but managed growth and improved stability and confidence in the organisation.
2006 Service Awards
Susan Anderson – UQ Women’s Hockey Club

Involved in the UQ Women’s Hockey Club for 16 years

1993 to 1995 was Club Treasurer.

Susan has held many roles within the club from club selector, executive member and player/coach and UQ Sport club delegate.

Currently Club Coach for Division 2 team.
Tony Booth – UQ Athletics Club

Joined UQ Athletics Club in 1948 as an undergraduate.

Was secretary of the club in 1949 and a member of the Blues Committee in 1949, has been a member of the Blues Committee since.

Became a Life Member of UQ Sport in 1954.

President of the UQ Athletics Club 1957 – 1968.

Honorary Treasurer of Australian university of Sport 1980 – 1982.
Pat Clohessy – UQ Athletics Club

Involved in the UQ Athletics Club for the past 10 years.

Currently the Head Coach for UQ Athletics club.

While being Head Coach of UQ Athletics, Pat has overseen the athletes that have competed at the Australian University Games and has achieved a record of eight consecutive titles for UQ.
