Cricketers into the final again!
UQCC has once again proven its high standing in the Brisbane Club competition by muscling into a third consecutive Twenty20 final. The club, which already boasts the One Day and Twenty20 titles from last season, defeated arch rivals Gold Coast Dolphins to secure a spot in the 2008/09 Edev Property Group First Grade Twenty20 final against Wynnum-Manly.
The final is to be held this Sunday in what will be a big day for UQCC with the final of the Sunday Legends competition to also be contested by UQ. Play kicks off at 9am with the Sunday Legends contesting Wynnum-Manly, before the main event commencing at 1pm at Allan Border Field in Albion.

Cricketers win Cougar one day final!
University of Queensland claimed a hat-trick of Cougar Rum Grade One Day titles with a thumping nine-wicket win over Toombul at Allan Border Field on the 15th of February. The Students had Toombul on the back foot from the first over of the game when Paul Burman grabbed two wickets. The ‘three-peat’ of one-day titles was a welcome result for The Students after they were beaten in the Edev Grade Twenty20 final several weeks ago. They also remain strongly in contention for a semi-finals berth in the XXXX GOLD two-day premiership competition.

UQ Boat Club Rowers Find Success at Youth Cup
The 2009 Australian Youth Cup Regatta was held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre from 10-12 July and seven members of UQ Boat Club’s High Performance Rowing squad returned with medals.
After the silver medal performances on the final day of competition from the Men’s and Women’s Eight crews, the Queensland contingent won the Rusty Robertson Youth Cup Trophy for the first time after the 4-year dominance from the New Zealand team.
UQ Athletes help make water polo history
Robert Maitland and Anthony Martin have helped lead Australia to victory in the men’s water polo final at the 25th World University Games in Serbia. Defeating Croatia 6-4, the gold medal is the first men’s international gold to be won in water polo ever and the first time a non-European country has dominated a tournament. With Maitland, 25, flag bearer for the Australian team and Martin, 24 both having competed at the highest sporting level, the Olympics, the Australian team had high hopes for the competition. “We went into the competition very confident of our abilities. We had the strongest team Australia has sent to a World University Games for quite some time, so we definitely knew we had the ability to go all the way,” said Martin.
2010 Sporting Scholarship Applications open
The University of Queensland (UQ) and UQ Sport with the support of the Alumni Association are pleased to offer sporting scholarships to outstanding sportspeople each year. The Sporting Scholarship Program recognises the pressure placed on elite athletes to study and train, by providing a range of support. Each scholarship allows athletes to study at UQ whilst receiving financial assistance and other sport support services.
2009 Postgraduate Coaching Scholarship Awarded
UQ Sport is happy to announce Mark Que, Head Coach at the Aquatic Centre and UQ Swim Club has accepted the 2009 Postgraduate Coaching Scholarship. Que has worked for UQ Sport for over five years and was recently involved with the development and re-formation of the UQ Swimming Club. The swimming club offers university students the opportunity to stay in the sport throughout their tertiary education.
Cricketers named in Bulls Squad
Three University of Queensland Cricket Club members have been named in the XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls squad for the 2009-10 cricket season. University of Queensland captain Craig Philipson, overlooked for a contract last summer, returns to the senior list after winning the Peter Burge Medal as the best first grade player in the XXXX GOLD Premiership. Another University regular Nathan Reardon has maintained his full contract.
Premier rugby colts remain resilient
UQ Sport Sports Development Manager, Vince Kelly, was recently invited to present the jerseys to the UQ Rugby Club Premier Colts team before their match against arch rivals Easts. Kelly, who previously worked at the club as a strength and conditioning coach was honoured when invited to present the jerseys by team coach and UQ Rugby Academy Head Coach, David Enfantie.

The University of Queensland Cricket Club’s Sign On Day will be held on Sunday 30 August 2009 at the WEP Harris Oval, St. Lucia.
The UQ Men’s Division 1 Soccer Team fought off their fellow Division 4 Club Team in a nail-biting 3-2 win at Perry Park last Saturday night to take home the 2009 Men’s Metro Cup Premiership.
UQ Soccer teams: Grand Final face off
Two UQ Soccer Teams have made it through to a Grand Final face-off in the 2009 Men's Metro Cup to be played at Perry Park on Saturday.
Scholarship holder and champion weightlifter, Amanda Phillips has taken out 1st place in the 75+kg division at both the Queensland and Australian Senior Championships.
Amanda lifted 84kg in the snatch and 110kg in the clean and jerk to take Gold in the Queensland Senior Championships held in Springfield, Brisbane in June. The performance qualified her for the national event.
Uni Hockey Team Charge Over Bulls
The UQ Men’s Hockey Team have overcome a 5 year curse to trounce the Bulimba Bull’s for the first time in 5 years.
Blake Cochrane’s assault at the Can-Am Para Swimming Championships in Edmonton, Canada last month proved brutal when he stole 6 Gold from 6 events, and narrowly missed the 100m Breaststroke World Record by 3 hundredths of a second.
Amberger Tastes First Elite Victories
Clem Jones Sporting Scholarship recipient Joshua Amberger claimed his first International Triathlon Union (ITU) win when he took out the 2009 Sendai Bay ITU Triathlon Asian Cup in Japan last month.
Just 3 weeks later he backed his win up with another podium finish, placing 3rd in the 2009 Beijing ITU Triathlon Premium Asian Cup on July 25; and then finished his race plan in Asia on August 1 with another win in the ITU Singapore Premium Asian Cup.

Former UQ Sport Development Scholarship recipient Emma Moffatt took out the 2009 Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship race last weekend and cemented her World Number 1 ranking.

The 2009 Sporting Scholarship holders have prepared themselves for competition to represent The University of Queensland at the Australian University Games to be held on the Gold Coast from 27 September to 2 October.
UQ Sport appoints new head coach - Rowing
UQ Sport has appointed Andy Cruickshank as the new Head Coach – Rowing. Andy has joined us from the Melbourne University Boat Club where he was Club Coach.
UQ Rowers off to defend uni championship
Nineteen UQ rowers will travel to Canberra at the end of September to try and retain the prestigious Oxford & Cambridge Trophy at the national Australian University Championship Rowing event.

Seagulls muscle up for new year
UQ Sport’s Sport Development Manager, Vince Kelly and Athlete Development Officer, Anthony Wood have been scouted to provide strength & conditioning services for the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls’ Queensland Cup Rugby League Team.
The UQ Swim Team led by Head Coach and UQ Sport Coaching Scholar Mark Que finished 4th at the 2009 Australian University Games held on the Gold Coast from 27 September to 3 October.
Double Figure Medal Haul for UQ Rowers
UQ Rowers medalled in 11 events in the Australian University Championships held in Canberra from 27 September to 3 October.

Walter shines in professional debut
Former Clem Jones Sporting Scholar and UQ Cricket Club member, Scott Walter has made the transition to professional cricketer with ease taking 2-50 in only 23 overs in his second match for the XXXX QLD Bulls.

The UQ Boat Club (UQBC) took out the annual University of Queensland Boat Club Regatta last weekend claiming 15 Gold, 16 Silver and 12 Bronze medals. The combined medal tallies of their closest rivals Centenary Rowing Club and Commercial Rowing Club’s was still significantly less than UQBC’s 40plus medal haul.
The University of Queensland Cricket Club and Queensland Fire’s Selena Tainton and Jessica Jonassen have this week been selected in the Australian Under 21 squad.
Left arm pace bowler and former Clem Jones Sporting Scholar Scott Walter was recently awarded the Johnnie Walker ACA Player of the Month for October.
UQ Cricket Club player Nathan Reardon will play his first four day game for the XXXX GOLD Qld Bulls in over a year this week when they take on the West Indies at Allan Border Oval.

3rd annual Evolution of the Athlete Conference a huge success
Queensland's Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Sport, the Honourable Phil Reeves MP launched the 3rd annual Evolution of the Athlete (EOA) Conference on Tuesday 3 November, a joint initiative of UQ Sport and The University of Queensland’s School of Human Movement Studies.

Scholarship recipient crowned Queensland Sportswoman of the year
Former University of Queensland Sporting scholar Emma Moffatt was crowned Queensland Sportswoman of the Year at Womensport Queensland’s Gala Dinner in Brisbane last month. Moffat was amongst a number of past and current UQ Sporting Scholarship recipients to be recognised at the event.
