Description If you are looking for a time-tested, well-rounded martial art that teaches you a wide spectrum of techniques in self-defense, as well as toughening you in strength, stamina and endurance over the long term, the UQ Karate Club is for you.

We practice the style of GojuRyu whose roots are with the Chinese KungFu styles of Tiger Fist and White Crane. Our training sessions consist of the following:

1. Stretching and strengthening drills, including break-falling.
2. Traditional offensive & defensive technique and drills
3. Kata (traditional forms) & application drills
4. Focus pad drills to test flow and co-ordination
5. Takedown & grappling techniques and drills
6. Joint manipulation techniques and drills

The UQ Karate Club offers an inclusive, friendly, and safe training environment. Most of our members are regulars with a long term view in GojuRyu training. However, those who only wish to improve their fitness, strength and a better understanding of self defense are also very welcome.

The skills that are taught in many short term self-defense classes are not only far too short for the techniques to be firmly imprinted in the student’s mind for long, but they also place little emphasis on physical strength and endurance that is so important in a self-defense situation. With this in mind, the UQ Karate Club welcomes all who wishes to continue their study of self-defense to try us. Our members range from beginners to advance.

Senior or other practicing karate-kas will always be made welcomed to join us in sweat, and to exchange ideas, and to forge strong friendships.
