How do I make a booking for court hire?

There are two easy options for booking a court to hire at the UQ Tennis Centre. You can either come down to the courts and see one of our staff in the Pro Shop, or alternatively you can call (07) 3365 6933. This will direct you straight through to our Pro Shop staff who will be able to book you in a court in no time at all.

I want to play tennis but I don’t have a racquet. What should I do?

At the UQ Tennis Centre, we provide racquet and ball hire as well as court hire so you don’t even need to have your own equipment. You can also check out our wide range of racquets and other tennis gear at our Pro Shop if you did want to purchase your own equipment.

How do I join a coaching program?

Booking into coaching programs can be done via telephone, down at the Pro Shop itself or online at our website. All you have to do is pick a suitable time, the standard at which you play at and then you can start your five week course! All the information for our programs are provided online and at the UQ Tennis Centre.

The fixture season has already started. Can I still join?

Even if the fixture season has started already, we want as many people taking part as possible. Contact us at the tennis centre and we can get you a game as a replacement during the current season as we always need players. If you like what you see, we can begin organising for the next season!

What facilities are available at the centre?

The tennis centre provides 21 floodlit courts including two synthetic grass courts and a centre court. With 16 experienced and accredited coaches, we provide a number of group and private coaching programs for both adults and children.

  • We also provide court, racquet and ball hire for everyone for 14 hours of the day from 7:00am until 9:00pm.

  • The Pro Shop provides customers with everything they need from general information to the latest tennis clothing and accessories.

  • There is also a café next door providing food and drinks so you can be sure to keep your energy levels up!

How do I get to the UQ Tennis Centre?

Located within the University of Queensland, St Lucia, the tennis centre is situated right next to the river. There is a CityCat stop only 50 metres from the courts and bus stations only five minutes walk away. There are signposts throughout the University explaining the location and direction of the centre. If travelling by car, there are plenty of car parks available around the courts.

 Is parking available?

Parking is readily available for players who want to drive to the tennis centre. There are parking spaces along the road that runs adjacent to the river, at the UQ Swimming Centre which is located next door and at the Underground car park opposite the gym. These parking spaces are available throughout the day and are only a two minute walk from the tennis centre.

I'm a student. Do I get a discount on court hire or coaching?

You would get a discount on both court hire and coaching. If you are studying at any university you are charged a concession rate instead of the full price. We have group coaching sessions tailored specifically towards students at a cheaper price and general court hire in the day or at night is also cheaper for students.

What is the difference between the UQ Tennis Centre and the UQ Tennis Club?

While it is important to distinguish between them, the UQ Tennis Centre and the UQ Tennis Club work together to provide a service for all customers wanting to use the courts. The UQ Tennis Centre provides all general court hire, all merchandise in the Pro Shop and all coaching programs for adults and children. The UQ Tennis Club, located next to the courts, organises a number of programs including fixtures and social tennis, with these programs usually running during the evenings.

I have never played tennis before but I would like to learn. Is there a program I can join?

There definitely is! Most players come to us as complete beginners, which is our most popular class. Some people may be afraid to come and try to play, but they shouldn’t be! Tennis is a great game to play for fun, as well as for competition. Even if you have never picked up a racquet before, after one of our five week coaching courses you’ll be able to play tennis! It is either a really easy sport to learn or our coaches really are that good!
