Athletics Centre FAQ

What level are your coaches?

All athletic coaches are accredited holding a minimum Level 1 ATFCA accreditation.

How many children in a class?

Junior Programs – We aim to keep an athlete ratio of 1 coach to 10 – 15 athletes
Secondary Programs – We aim to keep an athlete ratio of 1 coach to 8 athletes

Are there any vacancies in the program I am interested in?

If the numbers are greater than 10 – 15 athletes for Junior programs, or 8 athletes for Secondary programs, we will put on another coach. This way, there will always be vacancies.

How many times a week do you recommend we attend lessons?

Junior Programs – Once per week is good as we believe that children in this age group should be active across a variety of sports.
Secondary Programs – You can attend 2 per week if courses are available.

If I miss a lesson, what happens?

Junior programs - The UQ Sport Athletics Centre understands that every family for some reason or another may not be able to attend 1 or 2 lessons throughout the term. We try to accommodate for this and encourage the child to make up a class from one of the other sessions during the week if possible.

The UQ Sport Athletics Centre does not provide make up sessions for Secondary or Adult programs, private lessons and holiday intensive clinics.

What do we need to bring to our lesson?

We suggest you bring the following things to athletics sessions: Comfortable clothes to run in, trainers, hat and water bottle

What is the refund policy?

Please consider carefully before booking into our Athletic programs. The UQ Sport Athletics Centre does not normally give a refund if you simply change your mind.

If you find that you are missing a number of lessons (more than 2) we are happy to credit the lessons to the following term, providing that you have a medical certificate to support the absences.

Do I have to pay to use the Athletic Facility casually?

The cost of using the track or any of the field event areas is $3.80 for public and $3.20 for UQ Community. After 3.00pm on weekdays, this fee is paid at the canteen in the grandstand. Between 7.30am and 3.00pm the fee can be paid at the UQ Sports and Rehab Clinic in the Grandstand. Outside these times the fee can be paid in the Honour Box on the fence near the 80 metre start line.

Where do I park?

Parking is available in the car parks opposite the UQ Sport Athletics Centre or at the Multi-Level car park situated along Sir Fred Schonell Drive. The cost of parking is $3.00 all day in the Parking Station opposite the Athletics Centre.

What if my child is unwell?

If your child is unwell, we advise that they do not attend their lessons. However, please use your own discretion on whether or not they are able to attend and still participate to their normal level. We recommend that you avoid lessons if your child is suffering from the following;

When does my child progress to the next level?
