Located on the beautiful grounds of the UQ St Lucia Campus, the UQ Athletics Centre boasts an Olympic standard 8 lane synthetic track and state of the art grandstand able to accommodate up to 565 spectators.
UQ Athletics Centre in conjunction with UQ Sport Kids offers a wide range of track and field holiday clinics to keep your younger children and teenagers running, jumping and throwing all school holidays. It's a great way to learn about all of the events.
The main aim of the program is to improve ones own performance in athletics events and of course having some fun while doing this, so it doesn't matter if it's the first time your child has tried athletics. Though of course, if you have a sprint star or decathlete in the making, our experienced accredited coaches will help them towards achieving their personal best times again and again.
The School Holiday Athletics program is held at the UQ Athletics Centre at the St Lucia campus, Brisbane.

Our experienced coaches and staff will be able to help in all aspects of athletics and have you achieving your personal best times, time and time again. Programs are available for all ages in a range of disciplines.
The UQ Athletics Centre plays host to a comprehensive selection of junior athletics programs designed to get kids excited about sport and fitness - including cross country and middle distance squads, sprint squads, lower and upper primary development, pre-districts and holiday clinics and play athletics. The secondary athletics program is designed for high school students and covers sprint squads, throw squads, jumps squads, high jump, hurdles and the middle distance squad.

Track and field clinics are run over each of the school holidays, to help kids improve their technique in the different athletic events. For beginners to representative athletes, our experienced accredited coaches will have children aiming for personal bests and at the same time, having fun achieving these. Skill Development Program
A fun, skill-based physical activity sessions which focus on co-ordination and skill development in the following disciplines: Sprints, High-Jump (scissors), Long-Jump, Shot- Put, Middle Distance, Relay Running, Discus
Kids Athletics Program
Internationally recognised by the IAAF (International Amateur Athletics Federation), the Kids Athletics program is rapidly growing around the world and in many countries, becoming a part of the school curriculum. This team-based program introduces students to the fundamental athletics skills necessary for creating a solid base for future development. This program can be tailored to suit an intra/inter–school designated sports afternoon, or could also be delivered as a year level term-based program.
Athletics Enhancement Days
Enhancement Days are designed for secondary aged students who already have attained basic skill level in the fundamental track & field events. Coaches provide event specific instruction, teaching progressions and fun, challenging activities for athletes of all abilities. In the past, many schools have used Enhancement Days as the assessment component for their track and field module, or as a skill development day for entire year levels. Schools have also used these days for talent ID, PE assessment and/or preparation for inter school carnival. The program is 3 hours of expert coaching of pre-selected events on a rotational basis. Students are coached in specific drills, technique development, and provided with specialist training tactics. The day concludes with a mini –teams based competition.
Talent Identification Program (9-14 years)
This program is designed to talent test your new grade 8 ‘s or any year level in your primary or secondary school- and get a head start on who might be your new athletics school champion! Using a set standard of testing activities including sophisticated field testing such as timing gates and counter jump movement testing, a year group can be tested and evaluated to give you an indication of where they are at.
After School Athletics Programs
After school programs at the UQ Athletic Centre are a fantastic way for students to brush up on skills in the lead-up to intra/inter school sporting carnivals. With fully accredited coaches available to assist and critique technique, or simply provide a structured after school athletics programs that enables additional practice for students, our after school programs are highly sought after particularly by local schools that pride themselves on being recognised as a ‘School of Excellence’ in sporting the sporting arena.
Jet Feet Speed Development
This is a specialist program that increases speed, power and agility for a competitive edge. This program has been identified as a valuable cross-training program for increasing agility in multi-sprint sports such as your school’s open netball, touch football, soccer, tennis, and rugby teams.
Annual Teachers In-Service
The UQ Athletics Centre conducts an annual athletics Teacher In Service for primary and secondary teachers in the lead up to school track and field season. Coaches presenting at the In Service are all accredited and registered members of the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association. Teachers from all sporting backgrounds and all levels of experience are encouraged to attend the course to learn/ get refreshed on coaching techniques, drills and games, and to revise the coaching principles of the track and field events.

The UQ Vs Sydney Uni Meet combined with a Club meet ( 12 years to Open) was held on April 19 from 6.30 pm at the UQ Sport Athletics Centre.

This event is held in the September/October School Holidays each year.
The 3000 metre All Comers Meet in May comprises a number of 3000m seeded races, 2000 metres and 1000m races.
This event was held on Friday 24 May and in 2013 was conducted as part of the Qld Cross Country Cup.
The 1500 Metre Classic is a popular meet run in November every year.
The Great Court Race, also held in May, is one of the University's proudest traditions. Join in the fun and run the 636 metre lap of the Great Court in 2013. Find out more about this event.
Teacher In Service courses have been designed to provide teachers (from all sporting backgrounds and levels of experience) with basic coaching fundamentals, and innovative, ‘tried & tested’ coaching techniques that will facilitate the delivery of a high quality Athletics teaching program within their own school.
The presenters on the evening are all accredited and registered members of the Australian Track & Field Coaches Association. They are also actively involved in school athletics, and responsible for the delivery of the UQ Athletics Centre’s Coaching Program.
There are two Teacher in Service courses being offered this year, a primary course and a secondary course. The Primary course is geared towards training the skills and drills necessary to teach Athletics curriculum events for primary aged students. The secondary course is aimed at secondary aged students and introduces more advanced coaching techniques and strategies across most athletic events.
The 2013 Teacher in Service courses were offered on 26 April (Primary) and 10 May (Secondary).

The UQ Athletics Club is Australia's leading university athletics club, having won the Australian University Games for ten consecutive years.
The Club caters for all events and athletes from beginner to elite level and boasts a number of rising stars and senior Olympic athletes.
UQAC prides itself on a fun, social, supportive and professional environment in which athletes of all abilities can keep fit and hopefully achieve their athletic potential. The club has no set training days but access to training can be sought through private coaches, who base their squads at UQ Sport Athletics Centre and/or UQ Sport Athletics Centre coaching programs.
