Anthropometry
The International Society for the Advancement of Kinathropometry (ISAK) has defined and approved an international anthropometry accreditation scheme, which is now taught in over 40 countries worldwide. The ISAK accreditation scheme is based on the concept of a four-level hierarchy. UQ Sport offers:
ISAK level 1 technician - restricted profile
A person who can demonstrate adequate precision in two base measurements, eight skin folds, five girths and two breadths of the restricted profile.
Curriculum structure
Total time 32 hours, comprising of:
- six hours of theory
- 10 in-course practical (with instructor contact time)
- 16 hours post-course to collect 20 full profiles within six months
The ESSA Continuing Education Committee certifies that this continuing education offering meets the criteria for 15 Continuing Education Points (CENF240810).
This course is accredited by Kinect Australia to earn 3 PDP’s (KA1625) and Fitness Australia to earn 15 CEC's (02218FA0212)

About our Presenter:
Gary Slater is a senior lecturer and consultant to professional sporting teams including the Reds and Wallabies Rugby Union teams; individual elite athletes; and professional organisations, focusing on performance driven nutrition strategies that get results. Gary has worked and studied within elite sport since 1996 both as a sports dietitian and sports physiologist at both the Australian Institute of Sport and Singapore Sports Council. Gary’s professional interests relate primarily to enhancing sports performance, helping athletes achieve their sporting dreams. Gary is particularly passionate about factors influencing muscle protein metabolism and growth, nutritional recovery strategies, ergogenic aids and the influence of body composition on sports performance.
Gary is a level three instructor in anthropometry with ISAK and has been graduating participants from ISAK courses since 2002. Using these skills in his every day work, Gary combines an excellent theoretical knowledge of physique assessment with great hands on skills in the use of both surface anthropometry and other techniques like bio-electrical impedance analysis, DXA and 3D scanning.
ISAK Level 2 Anthropometry - full profile
Level 2 Anthropometry is designed for those who wish to offer their subjects a more-comprehensive range of measurements. A Level 2 anthropometrist can demonstrate adequate precision in three base measures, eight skin folds, nine segment lengths, 13 girths, seven bone breadths and has a broad understanding of the theory of anthropometry and its interpretation.
A key element in it is the objective maintenance of quality assurance by requiring that all levels have to meet initial technical error of measurement (TEM) criteria in an end-of-course practical examination followed by the meeting of further TEM criteria on the measurement of 20 subjects to indicate satisfactory repeatability of measures.
